AnonymousHottie asked me to put up a new post so every time she visits the blog, she wouldn’t stare at a Whopper and become hungry.  And it is time for a new blog post; I have been out of action for a few weeks while Bedford Falls was in town, and there was way too much drinking, eating, guitar heroing, karaokeing going on to be able to blog as well.  Mmmhmm.

Sadly though, my mind is deep in work right now, so I’ll get a proper new post up over the weekend, but in the meantime, here’s a placeholder to move the Burger King Whopper out of the way. . .

So a couple of weeks back I described my Facebook 99 plan, which is still going well, but then I came across this wonderful piece of marketing by Burger King:

I’m not sure what more I can say about this, other than of course be floored by its awesomeness. And it actually lets your friends know – yep, Eddie would rather have a free Whopper than be your friend. LOVES IT!

Murphy gets in the spotlight once again . . . well at least I tried.

. . . Four days of pizza, Three paws a-falling, Two pups in snow drifts, and an extra mutt to take out to peeee”

After the big snowfall in Chicago a couple of days ago, the three pups went for their morning walk.  Murph was lagging behind, and then I felt resistance on the leash – I assumed he was peeing, something he seems to do a lot!  Turning around to see what he was up to, I found out that he had jumped into a snow drift, and sunk all the way down into it, leaving just his head poking out of the top, with one of his trademark goofie grins.  So adorable.  On the walk back, we were crossing the road near the park, and there was another smaller drift on the other side of the road.  Crossers, having seen the cuteness of Murphy’s stunt, decided he’d try the same trick.  Leaping perfectly onto the top of it, the panic hit his face as he realized it wasn’t the fluffy snow that Murph jumped into, but an ice pile.  He was quick to get into ski position, but on the first mogul lost all balance and slid down on his back.  Of course as soon as he made it back onto his paws, he tried to flash the look that he knew what he was doing, and it was all just for show.  

Yesterday was the lead-up to the big freeze.  The puppie walk was going well until on the way back, Ami suffered three ice/salt paw blow outs in very rapid succession, and only having one paw left, simply fell into the snow with a whimper.  Yes, I did laugh, and feeling bad that I laughed, I carried her the rest of the way home.

Today was my 4th consecutive day eating pizza.  That really has nothing to do with the puppies, but they were drooling at the pizzas.  Well, one of them was, the drool-machine, Murphy.  The pizza fest has stemmed from laziness – Missy came over to watch movies and stuff four days ago, and we decided it was too cold outside to eat somewhere, too cold in my apartment to cook, and so the pizza number came out, and 40 minutes later, delicious pizza arrived.  This was ordered knowing that I might be going to Artful’s place the next day, and knowing that we’d probably be having pizza.  From the same pizza place.  And we did.  These two pizza sessions meant that there was a lot of leftover pizza.  Another movie night with Missy last night meant that some of the leftovers were devoured, and then the fact that Chicago has a wind-chill temperature of -37F today pretty much meant that I wasn’t going anywhere to eat today, and with a few slices of pizza still left over for the chomping, a 4th consecutive pizza day became a reality.

OK, so it’s a day late, but yesterday was the First Day Of Dogmas.  A’Hottie’s pup, Murphy, came to stay for his 12 day vacation while AH suns it up for her Xmas in AZ.  No major incidents during Day 1, although Murphy became very useful last night when I slept on the couch, and kept me warm from the winter storm going on outside.  The other two shits deserted me and slept upstairs.  Did I just call them “shits”?  Yep – I love them, but they can be shits.  Quite often.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will play in their brand new arena at the start of the 2010/11 season, ending their 43-year residency at Mellon Arena, otherwise known as The Igloo.

The naming rights to the new arena were awarded today, and my comments about it to A’Hottie, went something like this:

I Facebook. Is it a verb yet?  Maybe, it matters not.  Most of us now seem to Facebook too.  There is a degree of Facebook etiquette to learn, some are good at it, others aren’t.  Then there is also the issue of friends.  Some people have thousands, some have a few.  Some people ‘friend’ anyone they remotely know, others don’t.  

I have made the decision to go with the 99 rule, which basically means that I can’t have more than 99 friends.  My reasoning behind this is that as much as I know lots more than 99 people, I’m really not that interested in what they’re doing every 8 minutes of the day, or to keep rejecting their requests to throw snowballs at me.  The other big reason for doing this is that theoretically you will end up with 99 freaking awesome friends, and I really don’t need any more than that.  I only have a handful right now, so 99 would be almost suffocating.  

When I first decided to do this, I had to ‘purge’ a number of friends as I was well over the 99.  And it felt good.  The only problem is figuring out how to pick the ones who don’t make the cut.  It was easy for those – anyone who I had never seen a single update from, or if I had never heard from, were obviously not worth taking up the 99, and were probably just using Facebook for stalking purposes.  I’m back up to 101 this weekend, so I’m about to head over to the list and purge a couple.  If you’re reading this blog, it’s unlikely to be you, because it shows that you put up with a lot of inane shit that spews from my mind, so it makes you a good friend.  Or mildly retarded.  Either works.  If it is you, then I apologize.  Well, I don’t, because it means that you’ve not said a word to me in the past year, although I’m sure you can find someone who just loves to have 1,254 friends, and be special in their life instead.

While I work, the TV is generally on in the background, partly as some white noise for me, but also for the puppies so they don’t bark at every person who walks past the front door.  It’s often similar things that are on; hockey talk shows, hockey games, documentaries, nature stuff, movies, and more recently, thanks to A’Hottie, Law & Order.

It’s the latter one that manages to cause confusion every day.  I’m paying scant attention, but I’m getting the background gist of what’s happening, and then all of a sudden they start to use magic as evidence.  I get perplexed.  Then I realize that Charmed has been on for the past 20 minutes without me knowing, and I feel like a fool.  Well, more of a fool than usual.

Although some sort of spin-off between the two would be quite interesting.  OK, it would really suck, but it would make me much less confused every afternoon.  I need to get out more.
