Finally, Penguins Good News
Defenseman Brooks Orpik has signed a 6-year, $22.5 million contract with the Penguins. With all of the ridiculous prices being paid for defensemen over the past 36 hours, keeping Orpik for the next 6 years for $3.75 million is something of a steal. Orpik had a break-out season this year; never really a point scoring defenseman, he is by far the most physical D-man in the Penguins lineup, epitomized by this 15-second hit-fest against the Wings in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final:
As anticiapted yesterday, Malkin signed a 5-year, $43.5 million contract extension with the Pens which kicks in at the start of the 2009-10 season. The contract is identical to Crosby’s which kicks in this season.
Now to find 4 or 5 wingers to play with these guys.
